Ariel was initiated in the Tibetan/Hawaiian style of feng shui from master Elnathan “Nate” Batoon. This style combines ancient Tibetan Buddhist (Black Hat), Chinese (Taoist) and Hawaiian (Huna) philosophies and is a rarity in the feng shui world.
He has since gone on to study with numerous other teachers on feng shui including Karen Rauch Carter (Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life), David Daniel Kennedy (Feng Shui for Dummies) and His Holiness Grand Master Lin Yun (founder of the Black Hat style of feng shui.)
Ariel’s first personal growth seminar was with Tony Robbins which was his birthday present when he was nine years old. He attended the “firewalk ceremony” in New York City which culminated in him walking over 30 feet of hot coals.
Ariel sampled classes in martial arts (from Kung Fu to Tai Kwon Do) but it was during an Outward Bound course in which he learned how to push the physical limits of his body beyond what his mind could comprehend. During that course Ariel hiked and whitewater canoed from southernmost Maine to the Canadian border in just under three weeks, including spending three days alone in the woods.
Ariel graduated from the University of Southern California with a B.A. in Theatre (and only a handful of credits shy of a minor in psychology) at the age of 20.
It wasn’t until a pilgrimage in which he took with his mother to India in 1996 that Ariel began to embrace some of the more esoteric teachings he had been exposed to during his youth.
In 1998, Ariel met two of his most influential teachers: Dr. Renata Mihalic and Dr. Ken Habousch. Ariel has had regular guidance and coaching from Dr. Mihalic and Dr. Haboush for close to 9 years in such areas as positive thinking, exercise and nutritional counseling. (It was also through Dr. Mihalic that Ariel learned about feng shui and met his master teacher Elnathan Batoon.)
Dr. Mihalic further recommended that Ariel meet Yasuhiko Kimura (a philosopher and former Zen Priest) and decided to enroll in his six month course on Cosmic Consciousness which described everything from the power of the mind to the intricate workings of Russellian Science.
After receiving his certification in this course from the University of Science and Philosophy (based in Virginia) Ariel continued to study with Yasuhiko Kimura in both his goal setting and power of mind workshops as well as his summits on world peace and transformations in education.
Ariel recently finished a year long Master Course with Mr. Kimura entitled Authentic Thinking for Creative Expression.
mantra + meditation
Ariel’s first introduction to mantra was from his first teacher, his mother, Crystal. She taught him several mantras during his childhood and another just before taking him on a pilgrimage to India (to see Satya Sai Baba) in 1996. Though his mother didn’t “formally” introduce Ariel into a mantra discipline, her life as a bhakti influences his heart to this day.
Ariel’s second induction into the art of mantra came directly from his feng shui master, Elnathan “Nate” Batoon. In the year 2000, Ariel was given a 40-day meditation discipline as part of his initiation into the art of feng shui. He was instructed to say three mantras each day. One of which was the very first mantra his mother taught him as a child.
In 2003, Ariel met vedic priest Thomas Ashley-Farrand, (Namadeva) author of Healing Mantras and regular contributor to Yoga Journal magazine. At this time Ariel began to learn a deeper understanding of the art of mantra and he began a regular practice which he continues today.
He has practiced meditation with Tony Robbins, Sally Kempton, Yasuhiko Kimura, Tej Kaur Khalsa, Kyle Matthews, Darren Main and Bhagavan Das. Ariel has also studied Yoga and Yogic philosophy with Rodney Yee, John Friend, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Douglass Brooks, Aadil Pakhivala and his dear friend and colleague, Christine Burke.
Ariel has received Darshan from Hilda Charleton, Sai Baba, H.H. Grand Master Lin Yun, Sri Satchidananda and Amma (the hugging saint.)
