Start Small, Start Simple… But Start!
Namaste! I hope this message finds you well, healthy and happy.
Happy Spring!! Many of us are emerging from a more inward (or yin) seeking time that winter provides and are starting to reawaken to their outer expressions (yang), our surroundings. Some of you may find yourself looking around at aspects of your home or life and saying…this isn’t me anymore!
So how do you begin to make changes? Identify what is no longer serving you and begin to make space for something new. Remember, you cannot pick up something new in your life unless you put down what you are holding. Going with that theme, the thought for April is:
Start small, start simple…but start!
Some people get overwhelmed by “sudden” changes, so they don’t make any at all. Other people keep putting off making the change in their life until they can “do it right.” And some other people simply don’t trust that a little bit goes a long way.
Just ask a chef what a little spice can do to an entire dish. Ask an athlete what a slight change in focus can do to their swing or their passing game. And in your own life, think about how it feels to come home to your bed already made.
So start small. You don’t have to do it all today. Think about your larger goal, then break down the process of achieving it into small, bite-sized chunks.
Tackle one room at a time. If the room is too much, start with a closet. Or clear out under your bed. Or clean up your desk. If you can create one area in your life that you feel good about and can learn to maintain you will find that you have extra energy to make those more daunting changes. One step at a time.
The little victories will bring your courage and confidence that you can indeed bring change to your life. So start small. You might be amazed to remember that every large task is made up of hundreds of small little steps.
